Gandhi Jayanti – International Day of Non-Violence. Mahatma Gandhi (1869–1948) Human Rights Defender

Today we want to remember Mahatma Gandhi, one of the great defenders of human rights and commemorate the anniversary of his birth.
The morning was spent at the Cristóbal Colón public school in the Pajarillos neighbourhood of Valladolid, where a workshop was held to participate in the KIDS 4 HUMAN RIGHTS international drawing competition, organised by the Gabarrón Foundation in collaboration with the Casa de la India Foundation, the Pajarillos Educa association and the Observatorio de Transformación y Participación de Castilla y León (Castile and León Observatory for Transformation and Participation), with the aim of promoting and defending human rights and encouraging art among young people.

We wanted to learn about and interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in an artistic way. The children at the Cristóbal Colón school took part in this creative workshop led by the well-known artist Cristóbal Gabarrón, in which the participants created their own works, contributing their own symbols and messages. The works created will participate in the ‘KIDS 4 HUMAN RIGHTS’ International Drawing Competition, organised by the Reina Sofía Children’s Art Gallery of the Gabarrón Foundation in collaboration with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of human rights among young people and commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
