The eighth edition of the India en Concierto Festival will come to a close in June with performances in Valladolid and at the Granada Festival.

On Saturday 22 June at 7.30 pm, the Chamber Hall of the Miguel Delibes Cultural Centre in Valladolid will programme ‘Tariqa: el camino” (Tariqa: the path), a show featuring music, dance and poetry inspired by the verses of medieval mystical poets from India, Persia and Spain, performed by musician Germán Díaz (hurdy-gurdy and mechanical instruments) and dancer Mónica de la Fuente (dance and recitation), with the special collaboration of the wonderful singer Vidya Shah (singing and recitation). Tickets are now on sale for 10 € at the box office and on the Miguel Delibes Cultural Centre website.

On 25 June, Casa de la India will host “Drums of India” by tabla genius Bickram Ghosh, considered one of the three best tabla (percussion) players in the world, who will be accompanied on stage by musicians V. Suresh (ghatam), B.C. Manjunath (mridangam) and Abhishek Mallick (sitar). Bickram Ghosh was Ravi Shankar’s tabla player. He has played on four Grammy-nominated albums and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Soundtrack for Girish Malik’s film Jal. Bickram Ghosh’s group will give a workshop at 7.30 pm and an educational concert at 8.30 pm. Registration for the workshop costs 10€ and tickets for the concert are 10€ (workshop + concert package: 15€).

These same performances can also be seen at the Granada Music and Dance Festival, which is scheduled to take place in the streets, squares, theatres and palaces of the city of Granada from 7 June to 14 July, in parallel with the Festival programme.

La Huerta de San Vicente will be the venue for the Indian concerts of the 21st edition of the FEX of Granada Festival as part of the India in Concert Programme, in collaboration with Casa de la India, the Indian Embassy in Spain, the ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) and RIMPA (Ravi Shankar Institute for Music and Performing Arts). On Wednesday 26 June at 10 p.m., the event will be “Tariqa: el camino” (Tariqa: the path) and on Thursday 27 June at 10 p.m., “Drums of India” by Bickram Ghosh.

The Indian programme at the festival will be completed with two lecture demonstrations: “Natya Shatra’ by Mónica de la Fuente and Guillermo Rodríguez (Tuesday, 25 June at 9 p.m. at the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia) and ‘Women performers in the gramophone era’ by Vidya Shah (Wednesday, 26 June at 12:30 p.m. at the Palacio de la Madraza).

The India en Concierto Festival, held every two years, aims to bring the talent, creativity and cultural richness of India to the Spanish public through music and dance. In this eighth edition, the festival has featured concerts by Soul of Benares led by Deobrat Mishra, a jazz and Carnatic music concert by Sumanth Manjunath, Yashwant Hampiholi and Enrique Vargas, Raga: an encounter with Bengal by musicians Nihar Mehta and Sougata Roy, as well as a recital of classical Bharata Natyam dance by dancer and choreographer Renjith Choorakkad.
