“The highest education is that which does not merely give us information but makes our life in harmony with all existence”.

Rabindranath Tagore

Escuela de la India is an educational programme that promotes intercultural dialogue and provides a meeting place.

It draws inspiration from the theory and practice of holistic education advocated by Rabindranath Tagore,

An ardent defender of dialogue between cultures and peoples. Tagore envisioned an education that nurtures growth, imagination, and exploration; that embraces non-violence; that cultivates the art of movement and mindful awareness even in the midst of a busy life; and that fosters a respectful relationship between humans and nature.

How it works?

Escuela de la India offers educational content designed by its team that is flexible and open in nature, as it can be adapted to different contexts, spaces and target groups.

The teaching staff that leads the activities is made up of a group of experts from India and Spain with extensive experience in intercultural and multidisciplinary education in the artistic, social, cultural and educational fields. Artists, socio-cultural educators and teachers are part of the Escuela de la India as learning guides. Each one brings different qualities and characteristics that enable enriching, holistic and transdisciplinary teaching. Collaborative and cooperative work is encouraged, as are spaces for teachers to meet during the learning process itself, enriching the teaching team with different points of view, experiences, cultures, ways of being, thinking and acting.

The teaching-learning process is carefully designed to provide participants with contextualised, enriching and beneficial experiences in freedom.

Who is the programme aimed at?

Escuela de la India is committed to an educational, artistic and cultural project aimed at various groups, with direct involvement from its managers and with the aim of jointly designing and implementing specific collaboration projects tailored to the specific needs of each entity and target group.

More than 5,000 people participate every year in the educational, artistic and intercultural experiences organised by Escuela de la India team at Casa de la India.

Learning experiences

Educational visits

The various open tours of Casa de la India provide a direct encounter with Indian culture, offering the opportunity to explore and reflect on its content and serving as a learning environment for actively discovering art. The aim of these visits is to bring Casa de la India closer to schoolchildren through a programme of visits with workshops tailored to different educational levels, thus promoting a direct encounter with Indian culture. These visits take place in the different rooms and facilities of the building, also taking advantage of the exhibitions regularly hosted in its premises. In recent years, prominent exhibitions have included ‘Musical Instruments of India’, ‘The Beatles and India’ and ‘The School of Rabindranath Tagore’, among others.

Educational activities and programme for health, wellbeing and peace

On the path of yoga

A path of transformation and comprehensive development. These activities are designed to help participants become more aware and achieve a state of peace and harmony through the practice of yoga. We offer yoga programmes for the comprehensive and holistic development of students and to contribute to their physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and intercultural development. With its origins in India, yoga has become a fascinating dialogue between East and West. We provide educational practices through a programme of physical exercises (asanas), breathing control techniques and meditation that improve health and lead students to a state of physical, mental and emotional balance and harmony. Our mission is to promote the well-being and comprehensive development of children and youth in their physical, mental and emotional dimensions. Key actions: greater knowledge of the body, self-discipline, self-awareness, concentration, connection with the environment, harmony and health.

Artistic experiences: music, dance and theatre

Live performances of music, dance and theatre provide an opportunity to engage with a diverse and enriching world. The exchange and knowledge of different artistic expressions today enable intercultural dialogue through art. These artistic experiences are further enriched by the content offered by India’s traditional culture. Its ancient culture offers great wisdom in the field of performing arts, where it connects knowledge of the body with precise techniques such as yoga and meditation and explores expressive and emotional capacities through gestural dance and the use of hands as a sign and essential element of communication and self-knowledge.
