The September programme will feature cinema, a series of Indian music concerts and the start of regular dance and yoga courses, including the first yoga course in Spain certified by the Indian government.
On Thursday 21 September, the autumn seasons starts at Casa de la India with the screening of a selection of Indian animated short films. The screening, organised by Casa de la India in collaboration with Cines Broadway, Redes Transculturales Kalarte and several Indian production studios, aims to promote Indian short animated films in Spain. The screening has brought together different animation studios from across the country to celebrate the diverse and creative styles and techniques of animation. With a selection of 11 short films that have won hundreds of awards and participated in official sections of international festivals, the screening will be held in a single showing on Thursday 21 September at 8 pm at the Broadway Cinemas in Valladolid. The exhibition will be presented by illustrator and professor of Visual Arts and Design Alejandro Antoraz.
The programme will continue with the special 20th anniversary Indian music and dance series with a double programme at Casa de la India, which will open on Friday 29 September with a performance by the Sampravaahi group from Rajasthan and close on Saturday 30 September with a sarod concert by Arnab Chakrabarthy.
On Friday 29th, the Sampravaahi group, led by Samandar Manganiar and sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) of the Indian government, will present a colourful music and dance show with the originality of bringing together two artistic currents in their performance: the folk music and singing of the Manganiar tradition of
the Rajasthan desert and the classical Kathak dance in the Jaipur style (gharana). On Saturday 30th, it will be the turn of sarod player Arnab Chakrabarthy, one of the leading sarod artists of his generation, who will give a concert of Hindustani classical music accompanied on the tabla by Shahbaz Hussain.
Also on Saturday 30th September, Casa de la India will celebrate the 20th anniversary of its foundation in Madrid, at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, with the presence of the president of the Foundation and Vice-chancellor of the University of Valladolid, Antonio Largo, and the Indian ambassador to Spain, Dinesh K. Patnaik, as well as other personalities invited to an event featuring a performance by the Rajasthani music and dance group Sampravaahi.
The Sampravaahi group’s performances in Spain will conclude at the El Albéitar Theatre in León on Monday 2 October at 8.30 pm.
September is also the month to enrol for regular dance and yoga classes, which this academic year 2023-24 will feature teachers Mónica de la Fuente, Purnata Mohanty (ICCR dance teacher, Government of India) and Apeksha Bhagwat (ICCR yoga teacher, Government of India).
Two of the most important styles of classical Indian dance will be taught: Bharata Natyam and Odissi, in addition to yoga classes and the first yoga course in Spain certified by the Indian government. All the information about these courses, as well as about the Escuela de la India programmes, will be given in detail on Wednesday 20 September at 7 pm at Casa de la India during the presentation of the educational programme for the 2023-24 academic year.
