LAB India for Performing Arts

A space for training, research, dissemination and intercultural artistic creation at Casa de la India.

A platform for the encounter between India and Spain to co-produce, disseminate, experiment in the performing arts field and delve into common artistic spaces to enrich our social and cultural environments.

Teaching programmes

Since Casa de la India was founded in Valladolid in 2003, it has continuously organised regular training in Indian performing arts. Casa de la India has set a benchmark in Indian performing arts teaching in Spain and has trained numerous students in the artistic disciplines of Indian dance and music. On the one hand, regular classes in the classical Indian dance form Bharata Natyam are offered through Kalasangam, a permanent performing arts training programme, as well as workshops and master classes given by specialists and great masters from India in all performing arts disciplines.

Creation and dissemination

In parallel with training and research activities, a continuous programme of artistic creation closely linked to training and collaborative processes is developed. These intercultural creations have been developed through artistic residencies promoted by Casa de la India, which have resulted in artistic co-productions with other entities, festivals and performance spaces in India and Spain.

Artistic residencies

LAB India coordinates the performing arts residency programme organised annually by Casa de la India in collaboration with other entities. The residencies have a project selection committee and can take place in either Spain or India. In the field of dissemination, Casa de la India aims to present the works resulting from artistic residencies, new experimental creations, and co-productions to the various venues, festivals, and performing arts networks with which the centre collaborates in Spain and India.
